We all love gorgeous lips, but there is more to a perfect pout than lipstick and gloss. I’ve always been the girl with perpetually chapped lips (and many looks with dark lipsticks have got ruined in the past, sigh!). Lip balm alone could never save my lips from nasty chapping..
As I walked through the narrow artistic lanes of Hauz Khas Village, I wondered what truly made this place a favorite among the youth. Sure, there are dozens of popular restaurants and bars, all conveniently in one place… but what was it that also made it a photographer’s muse and a fashion blogger’s blue door? I wasn’t about to figure out until the end of the day…
I put on a little pink dress from Candidly Couture – Its roomy, has a lovely pattern and makes for a perfect casual day dress. Also, it has pockets! Anything with pockets immediately earns my respect, I mean- you understand the practical aspects of life, dear dress! If I had my way I would put pockets in all skirts and gowns; maybe swimsuits too. I wore my denim jacket which has a kind of a washed out look and nicely complements the dress. To finish the look, I put on grey shoes and a white choker. The choker, well, is actually a beaded hairband from Claire’s (But don’t tell anyone!). Since the look was supposed to be super cute, I decided to loosely braid the front of my hair. So that completed my look for the day!
Sometimes you wander into places which seem familiar, yet new. Places where you realize that you can count your breath. And when you are back home, you know that somehow you have been healed of wounds you didn’t realize you had. Well, for the most part this place is metaphorical, but some of us happen to have an entire list of actual happy places. I love spending time in gardens and I always come out feeling more centred. Of course, one wouldn’t find me in a garden very often and quite frankly, I feel that is okay. I would rather be sleeping till a disgraceful hour on a Sunday morning, than rushing to a pretty garden or anyplace at all (wait for teleportation technology for that, shall we?). But once in a while when I do wander off to a lovely expanse of bright green, serenity will find me always.
If you are yet to discover your happy place, put on your favorite pink dress and head out.. eventually you will be there.
Until next time
It’s fashion week time again and we’re thrilled that the world is a couple of exquisite outfits richer already! I am sure fashion lovers have had all their 6 senses alert for Lakme Fashion Week pictures, updates, articles in the last fortnight. I have been sooo excited to blog about this; but picking out the best outfits from collections of close to 100 designers took a wee bit longer than I expected (and it did not help that the collections were so, so varied and awesome.) ! I have put the collections under the themes- ‘A princess story’, ‘The It Girl’s street style’, ‘Feeling festive’ , ‘He’s the charmer’ and ……-wait-for-it-……. ‘the showstoppers!’.
Has anyone else noticed how Asian fashion has made a leap to post-modernism? I mean gone are the days when you couldn’t do flared pants when skinny pants were in, or when the low-waist trend made high waisted trousers seem granny-like. We have moved into a fashionably comfortable space of acceptance- If you can carry it off, pick just whatever you think makes you look stunning! No common rules for all- personal style wins!
And the talented ones at Lakme Fashion Week this season showed us just that. From androgyny, dazzling sequins, elegant drapes, bold color blocks, dramatic cuts, ethnic handloom, subtle fusion – we saw so much this time! Even amid the diversity though, some of the trends spotted were maroon, olive green, capes, stripes and zig-zags, crop-tops, sheer, layering…you would have seen some patterns if you had gone through the hundreds of designs like i did (but now you can just check out the best ones! phew.)
Random fun fact: Vir Das debuted his collection at LFW. I quite like his sense of humour. No really, i’m referring to the quirky prints on the clothes.
So finally… here are my picks ! Take a breath ladies and gentlemen, this is going to take a while and you will not want to stop! (Don’t forget to check out what I wore at the end of the post)
