City girl’s musings
City girl’s musings
As I walked through the narrow artistic lanes of Hauz Khas Village, I wondered what truly made this place a favorite among the youth. Sure, there are dozens of popular restaurants and bars, all conveniently in one place… but what was it that also made it a photographer’s muse and a fashion blogger’s blue door? I wasn’t about to figure out until the end of the day…
So we walked around the the hub of the city’s nightlife and in the next breath took in the rustic glory of the lake. In between shoots, we parked ourselves at this cute little hidden place called The Hippie Trail and had some amazing thin crust pizzas and iced tea. The place has an interesting decor of fairy lights, dream-catchers, wall-art. Judging by the number of laughs and board games going on (yes, those still exist.. yay!), the customers definitely didn’t seem to be in any hurry to leave. The place, it seemed, was conceptualized and run by a couple of friends and was doing pretty good solely on the basis of word-of mouth publicity (my college-going cousin took me or I would have never found this place). I noted that the quirky yet homely environment of The Hippie Trail was quite a contrast to the posh and delicate setting of my favorite-Smoke House Deli, which I visited the day before, while scouting the place for our shoot. We continued our shoot and got pictures outside dainty boutiques before a sharp turn revealed a wall full of spray-painted artwork. That did bring out my crazy and I posed and goofed around like there was no one watching. By the end of it, I realized maybe it is a subconscious appreciation for this artistic diversity of peers, sense of freedom to express and be, that brings a generation of students, artists and photographers here again and again… I sure came back.
So here is the look I created – I picked my mustard bustier from Forever 21. Crop tops are a summer favorite and I personally feel a soft bustier is even better. I paired mine with basic blue jeans from Levi’s. I usually like to neutralize a bright color, so I decided to put on a white duster, again from Forever21. I wore my hair up in an easy bun (no choice there really, it was a hot day!) and kept the makeup minimal.

After so many outfit posts from metro cities, I have just wrapped up a shoot in the hills which has been nothing short of exhilarating…. keep watching this space!
